Purdue IT is migrating all Purdue Fort Wayne users to a unified Microsoft 365 tenant beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 17. The migration is expected to be finished no later than Monday, Oct. 20. Users will be notified when migration is complete. This change will enhance file sharing and communication among all Purdue University campus users leveraging the Microsoft 365 suite of products.

Note: The username@pfw.edu email address for Purdue Fort Wayne students, faculty and staff will not change. However, once the migration is complete, users will need to use their username@purdue.edu credentials to log in to Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, etc.) moving forward.
What does this mean?
- Single instances of Microsoft Calendar, Teams, OneDrive.
- PFW users will still have two different email addresses: A username@pfw.edu address and a username@purdue.edu account.
ACTIONS REQUIRED BEFORE 6 P.M. ET ON OCT. 17:
- Log out of all Microsoft 365 applications. PFW users will not be able to access their accounts until the migration has been completed. ( Visit the Knowledge Base for live status updates.)
- Disconnect from the VPN.
- Back up any personal chats that you may need by copying and pasting into a document. Chats within Teams channels will be automatically transferred and will show up in the new tenant. All chats outside of a Teams channel (personal, meeting discussions, etc.) will be lost.
ACTIONS REQUIRED AFTER THE MIGRATION (ON OR AFTER OCT. 20):
- PFW employees with Windows computers should open the “Software Center” from the Start Menu and run the application “PFW Microsoft Account Migration Tool” This tool will sign you out of all Microsoft 365 apps.
- PFW students, faculty and staff will need to use their username@purdue.edu credentials each time they log in to Microsoft 365. Continue logging into your computer the same way you had previously.
- If this is the first time a user is logging in with their username@purdue.edu account, they will need to go through the Microsoft multifactor authentication (MFA) process.
- Use the username@purdue.edu login to access the following VPNs:
- pfw.edu/consultant
- pfw.edu/teleops
- pfw.edu/student
- pfw.edu/dwban
- pfw.edu
- Microsoft Team owners will need to re-add any non-@pfw.edu members to their Teams.
- All links to content in SharePoint or OneDrive shared to non-@pfw.edu parties will need to be re-shared with them.
- Meeting organizers should recreate and send out new meeting invitations (with a new Teams link if needed) for any recurring or future meetings. (Impacted users should follow the instructions here.)
