Purdue IT Announces Zoom License Changes for Purdue Students

As part of Purdue's Zoom contract renewal, student Zoom accounts have been transitioned from a standard Zoom Meetings license to a new Student Meetings license.

Most students will not notice any significant changes and can continue using Zoom for classes, meetings, group projects and student organization activities. However, there are a few differences between the new student license and a standard Zoom Meetings license:

  • Meetings students host are now limited to 40 minutes.
  • Cloud recording is no longer included; recordings must be saved locally to a student's device.
  • Webinars, events, live translation, workspace reservations and certain advanced collaboration features are not included.
  • Students can still join meetings hosted by faculty, staff and other licensed users without any changes. The meeting experience will follow the license of the meeting host.

For questions about how these changes impact your Zoom usage, please contact the Collaboration Team at collaboration@purdue.edu.
